For the first time in NBA draft history, college freshmen were selected with the first three picks of the draft, and four more would be selected before the 15th pick, setting another record for the lottery. Only two really mattered, though: Derrick Rose and Michael Beasley. Yet, oddly enough, only one of them was wanted. Both Miami and Chicago were completely enamored with Derrick Rose, in fact, it was so bad, that Pat Riley spent the week leading up to the draft trying to find a way to get out of selecting Michael Beasley. Collins is the Wrong Man for the Job
Watching Doug Collins as a broadcaster for the NBA, I would often turn to my dad or friends and say, “You know what… I like Doug Collins as a commentator. He’s got insight and some good stuff to contribute.” And it was the truth. I do enjoy Collins’ work and appreciate his knowledge. If you’re sitting there in complete disarray right now, you’re not alone. Its one thing for a team to make a stupid trade or to draft a player and have him crash and burn, but to purposely commit career suicide is something else altogether. Are You Still Sleeping?
I work with a student-run radio station at Penn State. I am a part of the sports department and, naturally, work with people who are supposed to know sports. Yet I found myself arguing with another staff member about the current state of the NBA. He insisted that professional basketball is in its demise, and even had the nerve to suggest that the NHL has surpassed the NBA in its popularity.
