Finally Throwing

by Anthony Gibbons on May 17, 2008

Man am I happy. Today is my first cleared day to throw and I can’t wait. It’s been 3 months and 3 days since the surgery and finally the day that I’ve been waiting for since then has arrived. All the hard work, the rehab, the mental struggle, and strain to get back healthy will hopefully keep me at ease after today’s throwing session. The program says that I can throw around 50 tosses, which is a lot considering the time I have taken off and what was done to my arm, but I am extremely excited to see how everything goes. The arm feels really good, no pain, some soreness in the mornings and when trying to stretch my arm passed full extension but from what I understand that is normal so no worries there. As far as throwing, I don’t even know what to expect. Will there be any pain, what will my arm feel like, will my mechanics still be the same, just some odd questions about throwing that you pretty much have to be in the situation to understand. It’s been a long time, not so much, but in the mind of a ball player not being able to throw for over 3 months seems like an eternity. From all the rehab my arm, shoulder, back, and lower half feel pretty good. I haven’t done much running or lifting to this point but since I am back home for the summer as of today hopefully I can get my routine started real quick. I’ll keep all informed as to how the throwing goes and let you know my thoughts on how I feel after.

Almost Throwing… But not Quite

by Anthony Gibbons on April 20, 2008

It’s almost 3 months and I’m almost ready to toss the ol round ball again. I mean, mentally I’m ready, but apparently the physical status of my elbow isn’t there yet.  I spoke with a pitcher from Florida A&T who had the surgery roughly around a year ago and tossed a complete game win against us this past weekend.  He was explaining to me everything I have been saying to everyone who reads these entries, but coming from someone who actually has returned from it and feels stronger is a plus. Not So Exciting

by Anthony Gibbons on April 13, 2008

So its been a few days since my last entry and not one thing has changed haha. I am extremely bored with the rehab, upset that I am not playing, and dulled by the idea of one sided workouts. Although my studies are coming along pretty good, I feel disconnected from the game of baseball. Just sitting at practice watching everyone fly around the field, take groundballs, and pitchers  throw off the mound get me pretty ancy until I turn to the sky and think about what’s to come from my surgery. Spring Break!

by Anthony Gibbons on April 2, 2008

Man this was a great break. Had some time to myself just to lay back and enjoy what the lord had given me. Even if I do have a bum arm I am more than able to gaze at the stars each night with anticipation for the great success ahead, on or off the field. Many people take their fortunes for granted; I try to show my gratitude for the littlest things, no matter how my life is going. At this point I should be pretty bummed I can’t throw, but I just think of this as an uprising, a signal to take better care of the things I am blessed with; My Arm being one of those things. Day 38: Feeling Good

by Anthony Gibbons on March 22, 2008

So, for the last couple days its been pretty laid back, not doing much other then the rehab.  I have thrown left once since the last time I posted, Just been real busy. I don’t like to make that excuse but seriously it’s been extremely hectic these passed couple days. I had a 9 page thesis paper due on Friday, and I found out about it on Thursday so I was rushing to finish that. We had a game on Friday and Sunday, Saturday was cancelled due to rain, so really I couldn’t get on the field since Thursday. I really want to get into it here soon though, so hopefully within the next few days I can get into a routine. [click to continue...]
